WHAT IS PILATES?
Created by Joseph Hubertus Pilates (we call him Joe) in the early twentieth century, Pilates is a corrective form of exercise designed to balance the body. It is an effective adjunct to sports training and physical rehabilitation. Practicing Pilates yields benefits like increased strength, flexibility, lung capacity, circulation, and better posture.
The body-mind-spirit modality translates into every moment and movement of life, bringing to life Joe’s saying:
“Change happens through movement, and movement heals.”

Work one-on-one with a knowledgeable instructor who knows movement from the inside-out.
Our instructors have decades of experience working with all bodies. Whether athletic, de-conditioned, injured or recovering, we can help you find your strongest self.
New to Pilates? We recommend one to three private sessions to familiarize yourself with Pilates concepts, equipment and safety before joining a group class.
We offer group classes for beginners to advanced clients in Pilates mat, reformer, jump board, chair, cadillac and barrels, as well as TRX and ballet barre.
Periodic workshops offer the chance to focus on a specific area such as fascial release, restorative stretch or core busters.

I was recommended to TMC by my physical therapist as I was experiencing pain around herniated discs in my neck. I quickly discovered that this would be my new fitness home, as the instructors were all very conscious of my injury and helpful during class in making sure I was in proper form at all times to strengthen my neck and thus strengthen the rest of my body.
I look forward to every class because not only does it make me feel good afterwards, but the classes challenge my body to build muscle and alignment in places I didn’t even know exist! TMC is for all ages, sizes, and physical fitness levels.

Pilates has literally changed my life!! Instead of getting a ski pass last winter, I invested into a consistent practice, on the equipment, 3-5 days a week at The Movement Center. I was lucky enough to get a little ‘extra attention’ at my most recent class and the way we focused and worked together was both enlightening and powerful. Sophia is gentle yet drives you to improve with each delicate movement.

I went mountain biking with my friend the other day and he was amazed at how my normally slow body was powerful on the uphills, and I had to wait for him at times! It proves to me that one month in Pilates is helping me recover in more ways than I realized!
